Francisco Proner
biography
Brazilian photographer, born in 2000, based in Rio de Janeiro. Member of Agence VU’ since 2020.
Since 2015, Francisco Proner has been training as a photographer in the field, covering the Brazilian political crisis and a large number of demonstrations. This was the opportunity for him to start his first collaborations with the alternative and independent media Midia NINJA and Jornalistas Livres.
In 2017, he completed a course in playwriting and documentary writing at the International School of Cinema and Television (EICTV) in Cuba. From then on, he has been engaged in documentary video-making. In the same year, numerous meetings, portfolio readings and workshops marked his participation in the first occasion of the Canon and Magnum Photos student programme as part of the festival Visa Pour l’image. Since then, he has been developing his first long term personal project “Anomia”. His reportage work is regularly published in the Brazilian and international press.
In 2022, he covered the presidential elections in Brazil – from the launch of the campaigns to the victory of President Lula on October 30th- for the daily newspaper Le Monde, the English daily The Guardian and the German magazine Der Spiegel. He is currently carrying out a long-term project (which he began in 2020) on indigenous people in Latin America, which illustrates the struggles against environmental and humanitarian exploitation in several countries of the continent. Above all, his projects record the climate of high social tension that shapes the complexity of Latin American geopolitical and environmental situations.
