Anne
Anne Rearick
biography
American photographer, member of Agence VU’ Agency 1993, based in Gloucester (Massachusetts, USA).
Anne Rearick graduated from the Massachusetts College of Art in 1990. Since then, she has worked as both a teacher and a photographer.
In the great tradition of American documentary photography to which she adds her singularity, she works on subjects over a long period of time, deepening the relationships with people and places that she captures over time. Her photography captures the daily experience of the worlds she immerses herself in, which she celebrates with delicacy.
Wether in the United States, in South Africa or in the Basque Country, Anne Rearick has the same generous look at people to give images that want, above all, to express the pleasure of the moment and the quality of the encounter.
“Free of any globalizing project, she lets everyone express themselves in turn with glances, poses, gestures, movement and she renews with this profoundly humanistic photography that never looks at her navel, that does not seek her ego or her identity but goes to meet the other, her equal” (Christian Caujolle).
Rewarded with numerous prizes, such as the Guggenheim Fellowship Award, the Dorothea Lange – Paul Taylor Award, and the Roger-Pic Prize of the Scam, her photographs have been included in major public collections such as those of the Bibliothèque Nationale de France, the Centre national de l’Audiovisuel du Luxembourg, and the Museum of Modern Art in San Francisco. She is also represented by the gallery Clémentine de la Féronnière (Paris).

Anne Rearick is one of those photographers who likes to take the long view, literally. For the project “Township”, the American returned to shanty towns in South Africa over several years, building longstanding relationships with many of her subjects, part of the trademark of her humanist approach.
