Arja Hyytiäinen
biography
Arja Hyytiäinen was born in 1974 in Turku, Finland. She studied literature but then turned to photography, which she studied in Sweden. She was accepted at the FAMU Fine Arts School in Prague, Department of Still Photography (2002-2005).
In 2006 she won the Kodak Grand Prix of the Critics, in 2007 the Grand Prix of the Lodz Fotofestiwal, and in 2013 the European Photo Exhibition Award. In just a few years, Arja has become well known throughout Europe, particularly in the Eastern European countries where she has lived and exhibited (Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Moldavia, Slovenia). She has since exhibited in many places in France, including the Château d’Eau in Toulouse, the Galerie VU at the Rencontres de la photographie in Arles and the Galerie Confluence in Nantes.
She has published Distance Now, published by Images en manœuvres and Cahiers, Arja Hyytiäinen, published by Filigranes.
Member of the Agence VU, she currently lives in a village in Vendée where she has started a cycle on childhood with the series Martan Laulu and Ile d’Enfance.
