As Michel Vanden Eeckhoudt’s book “Doux-Amer” so aptly demonstrated, his photography is a unique way of combining the light-hearted with the tragic. Much of his work is concerned with our relationship with animals, and we often smile at the incongruous situations in which they are captured, such as this little dog joyfully levitating on a country road. But make no mistake, the world he depicts is often a dark one, and his photography is all about the human condition. Robert Delpire, the great gentleman of photography, has accompanied this work with constant admiration, from the book Zoologies, published in 1982, to his latest book, Doux- Amer (2013), via Duo (2000) and Photo Poche (2007).
