Through his pictures, Guillaume Herbaut returns to the landscapes of Eugène Trutat, focusing particularly on the Luchonnais.
Guillaume Herbaut, photojournalist, is the winner of the 1+2 Factory Residence in 2022. For several months, he has been working on a new series in partnership with the Natural History Museum of Toulouse, based on the Eugène Trutat collection. Eugène Trutat was the first director of the Museum, a photographer, Pyrenean geologist and naturalist at the end of the 19th century, and one of the precursors of photography.
An exceptional collection of thousands of photographs on glass plates of the daily life of the years 1860-1910 is the starting point of Guillaume Herbaut’s approach.
Combining archives, landscapes and still lifes, he offers us a unique conversation in order to redefine the visual and sensitive contours of a new relationship with the world.
It is also an opportunity for the photographer to explore the aesthetic possibilities of photography, the electric and dreamy blue of his works becoming the anxiety-inducing artefact of climate change.
