Sinaloa – The Gardens of Humaya, 2019
In the state of Sinaloa, on the outskirts of the city of Culiacan, there is the cemetery of the Narcos: “the gardens of Humaya”.
Here the tombs are built as villas or palaces. They can have several floors, are equipped with living rooms with air conditioning and armoured windows.
The Sinaloa is known as the fiefdom of El Chapo. A state totally controlled by the cartels. Mexico has been waging a war against drugs since 2006 that has claimed tens of thousands of victims, many of whom are anonymously buried in clandestine mass graves. While women’s associations are reduced to looking for the bodies of their children themselves, often killed because of the war between cartels, drug traffickers are building real mortuary temples, they display their wealth and power even after death.
