Ukrainian refugees, 2022
The number of Ukrainian civilians taking the road to exodus has been increasing since 24 february. The first destination is Poland : at the Medyka border crossing, these refugees are arriving in large numbers, after several days of waiting on the Ukrainian side. Solidarity is being organised and support for these rootless families is being set up.
At this same border crossing, destinies cross : a Pole is about to go and fight against the Russians, Ukrainians living in Poland return to their country to support their family, a woman accompanied by her two children cries in the arms of a volunteer for her husband who has remained in Ukraine…
A few kilometres from Medyka, the railway station in Przemysl becomes a refuge for thousands of Ukrainians. Volunteers distribute food and blankets ; free accommodation and transport are offered to them. Many of them have left everything behind in the panic and find themselves completely destitute.
