In Mexico, the dead are counted in the tens of thousands, the missing fade away as if nothing had happened. There are over 40,000 in Mexico. The country is ravaged by drug cartels. People disappear and the police, suspected of corruption at the highest level, do not investigate. In the state of Sinaola, 1100 graves have been discovered since 2007. In 2019, violence has reached a new record. 8943 murders, or 10% more than the previous year.
An war which drags all Mexicans in its wake. A dozen or so throughout the nation are looking for a simple shovel in their hands, the bodies of their sons. A group of women called “Las Rastreadoras del Fuerte” (“The Stalkers of El Fuerte”), named after a town in northern Sinaloa, is carrying out excavations in the state of Sinaloa, located in northwestern Mexico, in order to find their missing relatives.
