Les nouveaux vestiges, 2017
Inspired by his passion for cinema and his collections of cinema and theatre memorabilia, Raphaël Neal produced two similar series: Rescapee and Les Nouveaux vestiges (The New Remnants). Here, false items of memorabilia – press photos of actors, magazine covers orpostcards for which the photographer’s friends posed – are re-photographed on natural backgrounds, from Iceland to southern Italy’s sulphuric landscapes, as if stumbling upon surviving relics from an apocalypse.
