Aniu
biography
Born in 1969 in Guangdong, China, Aniu lives and works in Shenzhen where he collaborates with the local press.
In addition to this professional activity, he develops personal research which, for example, led him in 2000 to create a black and white self-portrait every morning when he wakes up. The result was a large wall panel, very direct, an accumulation punctured with humor by the voids corresponding to the mornings when Aniu had forgotten his exercise a dozen times…
But Aniu devotes most of his time to drawing a portrait of his city, Shenzhen, perfectly artificial and created from scratch by the Chinese government which wanted to assert its modernity. He concentrates on color and cityscape research. With a look that is both fatalistic and poetic, Aniu questions the place of the human being in these cities in movement, marked by rapid and chaotic development, where the individual finds himself marginalized among the large ensembles.
Still with this perspective of questioning the urban and industrial landscape, Aniu visited in 2008 an industrial city in Sichuan, completely destroyed by an earthquake.
Under his gaze and with the help of digital retouching that allows him to play with color and light, the contemporary urban space seems overwhelming and invasive, but also, paradoxically, poetic.
Her works are frequently exhibited around the world, mainly in China and Europe, and are also part of public or private collections, including several museums in China.
