Serge Picard

biography

French. Born in 1961, Brittany. Lives in Paris.

In 1988, he was awarded the prize for Young Photographic Creation for “Memories of Liquid Days” at the Second Photographic Encounters of Braga, Portugal.

In 2001, he won the Polaroid International Photography Award in the “Fine Art” category for ” The Edge of the World “.

Regular contributor to the press for which he takes portraits, he is particularly interested in working on the light and the dialogue between his model and the background in which he places him.

Serge Picard never ceases to question realism in photography, to question a mode of representation that is inescapably dependent on the reality that faces him and to confront the technical modalities for what they allow him to approach the nature of the image.

He explores, in multiple technical approaches, the possibilities and limits of photography, its fabrication of time, its decomposition of space, its eternalization of faces.

Passing from portrait to landscape, from the nude to the study of materials, from color to black and white, from the Fresson print to the Polaroid negative, from the square to the chamber, he treats his objects in depth without ever ceasing to want to know better what photography is, in itself.

With Serge Picard, whatever the formal or thematic approach, the images are indelible and remain mysterious, enigmatic. They capture the gaze to lead it to lose itself in childhood memories, between absolute happiness and possible nightmare.
