Agnès Propeck
biography
Agnès Propeck is a French photographer who lives and works in Paris.
She regularly exhibits in France and abroad, in museums, galleries and festivals. Several of her photographs have already joined important French and foreign collections.
Agnès Propeck uses the photographic medium in the service of a message that draws its references from the entire history of art. She is both a visual artist and a photographer. Working on past, present and future meanings of objects, she constructs subtle, sober and touching stagings.
Her first creations emerged in the early 1990s. She chooses to express herself on a register stemming from emotions and personal thoughts, closely mixing word and idea with the conception of the image.
The photographer “knows how to bring out a soft poetry from the minimalist side of things” (Emmanuelle Lequeux in Le Monde). More than an image-maker, she is a maker of meaning.
Since 1995, Agnès Propeck has been teaching photography at the Ecole Supérieure d’Arts Graphiques / Penninghen, Paris.
