From January 14 to March 8, 2015, the Château d’Eau presents the work of the English photographer Vanessa Winship. This exhibition is not intended to be an exhaustive retrospective, but rather an attempt to highlight the mental universe and visual writing of this author by highlighting her four main works.
Always in black and white and using large-format cameras, her work combines portraits, landscapes and reportages at a point of convergence between chronicle and fiction. From the Balkans to deep America, photography is for her a journey towards the understanding of beings and territories where she stops. Her shooting protocol and her approach require that she is not a simple passer-by, she takes the time to live in the place. She thus explores the concepts of border, territory, memory, desire, identity and history.
