September 21 – November 3, 2019
As part of its 16th edition with the theme “Terra nostra – the time of the Anthropocene”, the festival Les Photaumnales is exhibiting “Voyage en Pays Clermontois” by Israel Ariño.
“Since July 2017, I have had the opportunity to travel through the communes of the Pays du Clermontois, in a particular drift during which I chose to return to places without history and moments of daily life at different times of the year. I wanted to confront myself with the hazards of walking, with the desire to photograph intermediate spaces which, in a way, intrigued me.
I tried to reread this territory, to short-circuit it to create a pastoral narrative full of “revelations”, where behind the surface of each image there was another hidden behind. Here, the images question the past at the same time as they reflect on the future.
At no time is it a question of making a moral judgment on the territories they cross. Rather, the point is to get rid of a whole series of codes, peremptory ideas and clichés that we associate with the knowledge of a place, in order to, at the end of our journey, try to discover the meaning of that place.”
