Guillaume Zuili — Walking In The Lines
6th edition of the Rencontres photographiques de ViaSilva
Exhibition from May 25 to August 25, 2023
Opening on Thursday, June 1st at the Gallery Net Plus
Living in Los Angeles for 20 years, Guillaume Zuili has been practicing an urban approach to photography for a long time. During his stay, the photographer focused on the route between ViaSilva and downtown Rennes, following the new subway line.
He kept on exploring urban landscapes, focusing on techniques and laboratory prints to reveal their atmospheres. The artist led a journey from the narrowest alleys of historic Rennes to the new ViaSilva district.
The artwork produced is associated with the edition of an art book published by Éditions Contrejour. Rennes is the third city after Saint-Malo in 2019 and Chartres de Bretagne in 2020, to host this program with the photographs of Guillaume Zuili and the short story of Pascal Dessaint, Et bientôt l’obscurité.
“Walking the line” (walking along the line, metro) as stated the artist himself. The result is a narrative made of contrasting light and shadow, surprisingly borrowed from the blazing sun of his adopted city, Los Angeles.
