Frédéric Lecloux — Territoires du cinématographe
Territoires du cinématographe
Médiathèque Jean Ferrat
2 Faubourg Camille Laprade, 07200 Aubenas (FRANCE)
From November 5 to 24, 2021
In cinemas or under the stars, in an urban or rural environment, in the limited time of a festival or the long time of everyday life, sometimes for a hundred spectators, sometimes for thousands… the “cinématographe”, as Robert Bresson used to call it, adapts itself to the diverse territory of the region of Ardèche.
It settles in a fold of a plateau, in the valleys, arrives for an evening on board of a truck, takes students beyond the horizon of the school, lays down in layers the traces of its history in the screening booths, greys out the projectionist who transforms the room into a work of art, disappears here to be reappearing there… And we, as spectators, are nourished, irrigated, fertilized, involved, sometimes not managing to grasp its work, but often moved, and always questioning our relationship with the world near and far.
Since autumn 2019, following an invitation from the Maison de l’image d’Aubenas and the association Les Écrans de Valence, as part of the artist residency “Itinérances” offered by the Ardèche department, Frédéric Lecloux has been photographing the region’s cinemas.
This exhibition at the Médiathèque and in the town of Aubenas presents a large selection of his work, as well as extracts from his residency journal.
