Shaken by ten years of civil war, by the fall of the monarchy in favor of the Republic and by two destructive earthquakes, Nepal is facing a massive exodus of men.
Faced with a shortage of work, they leave every day to work abroad. Many of them traveled to Qatar to build the infrastructure for the 2022 World Cup.
In the villages, Frédéric Lecloux photographed Nepalese women separated from their men, and then tried to find them in Qatar, revealing the human and societal costs hidden behind this exile.
Exhibition presented as part of the Rencontres de la Photographie de Chabeuil..
Roundtable discussion proposed in partnership with Amnesty Valence group and the Direction des Sports de Valence Romans Agglo, on the occasion of the publication of the photographic book “Au désert. Avec les familles de Népalais travailleurs migrants au Qatar”, Éditions Le bec en l’air, nov. 2022
