Conceived as a dive into 30 years of photography, Fleuves is a tender and dreamlike rereading of the work that Christophe Goussard carries out by the waters since the beginning.
The exhibition is essentially built around three important series in the photographer’s career: L’Adieu au fleuve (2013-2015), Entre fleuve et rivière (2017-2019) and Être Adour (2020-2022), which blend and intertwine to offer new readings, new journeys.
From the Gironde Estuary to the St. Lawrence River on the other side of the ocean, the work of the photographer, and of the curator Émilie Flory for this exhibition, has focused on narratives and imaginaries, mists and faces. The artist’s first (unpublished) photographs in Blaye, his native town, are in dialogue for the first time with existing images, and those taken along the Adour since 2020.
It is a question of roots and departures, of labour, of commitments, of landscapes and of life, of philosophy too, of monsters and poetry. Glances cross and new stories are born, from Royan to Urt, from Quebec to the Basque Country, from a father’s workshop to the bones of whales… – Émilie Flory, curator of the exhibition
