This series was filmed in Algeria, Martinique, and Ghana. As Algeria celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of its independence, Bruno Boudjelal wanted to explore the journey of Frantz Fanon, a French psychiatrist and essayist from Martinique who was involved in the struggle for Algerian independence and a thinker on Pan-Africanism, author of The Wretched of the Earth.
Fanon’s journey (Martinique, France, Algeria) geographically intersects with that of the photographer and resonates intimately with his personal history (Bruno Boudjelal was born in France to an Algerian father and his wife is of Martinican origin).
