Voyage en pays du Clermontois, 2017
“To photograph a territory is to try to discover the meaning of that place.”
Robert Adams
For this series, I travelled through the communes of the Pays Clermontois, in a particular drift during which I chose to return to places without history and moments of daily life at different times of the year. I wanted to confront myself with the hazards of walking, with the desire to photograph intermediate spaces which, in a way, intrigued me.
At no time is it a question of making a moral judgment on the territories crossed. The aim is more to get rid of a whole series of codes, peremptory ideas and clichés associated with the knowledge of a place.
I tried to reread this territory, to short-circuit it to create a pastoral narrative full of “revelations”, where behind the surface of each image, another was hidden. Here, the images are moments of revelation of a floating temporality, they question the past at the same time as they reflect on the future. In addition to this, the work on colour, an underground, sometimes perverse element, which proposes to extend reality, to shake it up, to go beyond it, and ultimately to make it poetic. A reality which, by definition, is always questioned. Imagination is irrefutable.
