Hidden Versailles, 2011
The hidden, the dissimulated is at the same time what is secret, like the back room where Louis XV received his spies. What is confidential, like the private apartments of sovereigns. What is forbidden to the public by necessity or by accident, is the case of the Little Stable or the Botanical Garden. What has disappeared, such as the Menagerie. And, finally, what can be seen without being seen, like the lead lacework on the roofs.
Secret rooms, observation posts, locks, service corridors, Pierre-Olivier Deschamps brings to light what was conceived to remain in the shadows thereby revealing the hidden side and part of the secrets of Louis XIV’s palace.
