Unknown: The Endless Reworking of a book, 2017
Published in 2007, Unknow by Stéphane Duroy is comprised of photographs taken during years of travel to the United States, between New York and Montana. Duc to print a printing flaw in the book’s production, Duroy was able to recover a hundred copies which could not be sold. Two years later, he began a long process in which he transformed each book adding collages, press cutting, anonymous photos, and abstract paintings, ultimately altering, recomposing and reinventing the work’s original layout.
Between 2009 and 2017, Stéphane Duroy produced 29 original books.
