The Table of the Hounds, 2013
This selection of square format images highlights the transition from black & white to colour photography. The series was produced in four French regions, which have a strong and distinct identity: the domaine of the Bel Val (Ardennes region), the Marais-Vernier (Haute-Normandie region), the natural reserve of the Prés des sales d’Arès and of Lège Cap Ferret (Gironde region), and finally Dissé-sous-le-Lude (Sud Sarthe region).
The selection fits into a new cycle entitled “The table of the hounds”. It refers to the photographer being invited to dinner during a hunt. The trackers (people who, during a beat and with the help of pack, track the game) welcomed Jean-Luc Chapin amongst them on the condition that he would share their meal, served on a separate table called “the Table of the hounds”.
