The Migrant Caravan, 2018
The Migrant Caravan documents one of the largest caravans of migrants in recent history, with as many as 7,000 travelers, including at least 2,300 children, according to UN agencies. The caravan, gathered through a social media campaign, left San Pedro Sula, Honduras, on October 12, 2018, and as it spread, attracted people from Nicaragua, El Salvador and Guatemala. This caravan of migrants is neither the first nor the only migratory event: this phenomenon began almost 10 years ago. But the number of migrants in the caravan this year has reached its peak, due to increased violence in Central America and a growing level of poverty throughout the continent.
