The Invisible, 2020
“When last March the government decided to establish a curfew, I had no intention of photographing that period. On the first day, March 17, 2020, I went outside for an hour to do my daily walk. I have been living for a long time in this district of La Noue which straddles the cities of Montreuil and Bagnolet.
I was surprised during this first walk by the number of people I knew who came to talk to me and tell me their stories.
It is true that a few years ago we had carried out there for several months a great project of collecting words and photographs from the inhabitants.
After this first day, I decided that all my daily outings during the lockdown would take place in my neighborhood within a radius of 500 meters from my home and that I would keep a record of all the encounters I would have during these walks in the form of photographs and written notes. That’s what I did from March 18, the idea that I liked in this small project was also to be able to speak about this very difficult period through the voices of others.
So this work tells the stories of all those who are so rarely talked about and many of whom continued to work (in supermarkets, cleaning services, transport, caretakers, delivery services, …) and who can often be called the “Invisibles”. »
