The farewell to the river, 2013
“The farewell to the river is an intimate tale of a double bicycle trip around the Gironde estuary. From Royan to Bordeaux, while the author Christophe Dabitch rode and gleaned stories on the Medoc side, I rode and photographed the other bank, on the Blayais side, each on his familiar land and as close as possible to the river. This narrative evokes the landscapes, those who live in these territories and the link maintained with a history and a memory. It is a personal crossing of places closest to a river that can evoke other rivers, elsewhere, as so many correspondences. Cycling and choosing the practice of film photography have imposed themselves as a necessity for a long time, alternating breaks and movement, in a form of lightness and availability. This distance from the immediacy of the image at the time of the shooting brings back to later its revelation and its lot of surprises or new emergences. The grain and certain superimpositions are the consequence of a welcome accident, that of a use of altered films, reinforcing the thickness, the materiality, the trouble and the strength of the interrelationships between the earth, the river, the lights and the beings who live or have lived in this territory. »
