The dead of the street, 2016
When you live in the street, you die.
Officially, more than 500 persons died in the street in 2016. They will be approximatively 3 000 according to the association “ Les Morts de la rue“. In the street, life expectancy is around 49 years old, thirty years earlier than the french average.
People doesn’t die more in winter than in summer, but they die alone.
The numbers resound like so many individuals made invisible, disappearing into the urban space, without a name. Images of homelessness exist, but they seem to no longer reach our sensibilities. So how do we reassign the audience?
Like stelae, these photographs of places left empty in dialogue with the names and accounts of these anonymous disappearances hope to sensitively summon the conscience of each person.
