Peru, 2020
Juan Manuel Castro Prieto went to Peru for the first time in 1990. He goes then to Cuzco where the archives of the great Peruvian photographer Martin Chambi (1891-1973) are conserved. From this first trip, during which he produces prints from negatives on glass plates, he develops a special relationship with this country that he has never finished exploring since that time. At the beginning of the year 2020, he leaves for a new journey in the Peruvian mountains, in order to meet the isolated populations.
Through the passionate look that he carries on this country, he makes the portrait of women and men in their traditions and their daily life. More than a work of documentation, Juan-Manuel Castro Prieto comes back on his own tracks, in the heart of isolated villages and continues to tell the personal myth that the country inspires him.
