Long ignored, even despised, industrial buildings have been arousing interest and recognition in France over the last few years: as historians, architects and institutions study them, ensure their preservation, and rehabilitate them, these buildings acquire heritage value.
These factories, whether still in operation or converted into museums, banks or housing, bear witness to the technical revolutions and social advances brought about by industry from the 15th to the end of the 20th century.
