Les Franciscaines, Deauville, 2020
Pierre-Olivier Deschamps is following the evolution of the great project of the Franciscaines which began in January 2018.
The Franciscaines will house a museum, an auditorium, temporary exhibitions, reading and documentation spaces, structured around themes dear to the city of Deauville – the horse, cinema, entertainment, photography, the art of living, youth. This major project of the City of Deauville displays the audacity of a contemporary space, whose originality lies in its hybridity, its desire to decompartmentalize knowledge and the arts, its territorial anchoring and its desire to make it above all a place to live.
“At the beginning of January 2018, when I photographed the Franciscaines’ site, I had the feeling that I was going beyond the only sensitive inventory of the signs of the past presence of this small religious community. The color and the light, which this sleeping beauty revealed to me, seemed to constitute an ideal gateway to this future cultural site open to the largest possible audience. ”
