In short, this is the inspiring principle that guided the team of engineers from the Architecture Engineering Laboratory when they approached the expansion project of the Gianni Rodari Nursery School in Poviglio, Reggio Emilia. Through a multidisciplinary approach and consultation between the various subjects concerned, so that the new building can fully satisfy the harmonious development and growth needs of small users, the intervention assimilates the principles of bio-architecture, respecting the context of the habitat and reviewing certain qualifying aspects while preserving their character and personality. Loris Malaguzzi, founder of the Reggio Emilia educational philosophy, with the Municipality, and the many local administrators, participates in the birth and construction of the municipal school and nursery network in Reggio Emilia. Graduated in pedagogy, he began his activity as an elementary teacher in 1946. In 1950 he graduated as a school psychologist and founded the municipal psycho-pedagogical Medical Center of Reggio Emilia where he worked for over twenty years. Starting in 1963, he collaborated with the Administration to open the first municipal schools for children. To this first network of services, which since 1967 also welcomes self-managed "Asili del Popolo" founded in the post-war period, in 1971 there are nursery schools: a network of services that Malaguzzi directs for many years with other close collaborators, defining the cultural project.
