Catharsis is part of the famous series “In Situ, behind the Scenes of the Paris Opera”. Pierre-Elie de Pibrac, with a very personal and abstract approach, transcribes the dancer’s bodies into surprising images.
“Through a new technique and a new way of looking at things, I tried to capture the energy released by the dancers during the performances and its diffusion in the space. Each ballet made me experience very strong emotions, impulses, anxieties and fantasies that I tried to transpose into photographic thoughts : a kind of reminiscence of my childhood. The result are powerful images that, in their natural distortion and abstraction, tell other stories. Thus, when the viewer faces these photographs, he appropriates the energy and emotion conveyed by these clichés, leaving him free to make his own interpretations. »
