Giants, 2016-2023
Giants is a series of monumental photographic installations created in situ on scaffolding, inaugurated during the Olympic Games in Rio in 2016. Rather than working with the most famous, JR focuses on anonymous athletes who train with the dream of participating in the Olympic Games and who seem to disappear behind the beauty of the gesture. The image of the athlete in action is printed in black and white on a monumental canvas cut out and draped over the scaffolding. As is often the case, JR adapts to the architecture of a building or a place. Thus the scaffolding becomes a sculptural element in its own right.
