Funeral of Hocine Ait Ahmed, 2015
Hocine Aït Ahmed, born in 1925 in Kabylia and died in 2015 in Lausanne, Switzerland, was an Algerian politician and historical leader of the Algerian Liberation Front which, after Algeria’s independence, embodied the figure of the irreducible opponent to the various powers in place.
His political commitment in which he took part began as soon as he reached the age of fifteen. This was followed by struggles, sometimes military in the face of the colonial yoke, diplomatic on an international scale for the recognition of Algeria as an emancipated nation, but also ideological from all points of view, and this through his interventions, his writings and positions that became a textbook case.
A fervent defender of human rights and individual liberties, his democratic struggle at the head of the Front des Forces Socialistes, which he made it his sacred duty to lead until his last breath, continues to inspire, even today, many intellectuals, men and women politicians of all generations.
