Forced sterilization in Peru, 2004
The Indian population was by far the most affected by these sterilizations. The majority of the women who underwent these operations suffer from various illnesses, diseases, depression… and are frowned upon by those around them. All these women are essentially Indian peasants living in the poorest departments, “insignificant” people whose fate does not interest the rest of the country. Between 1995 and 2000, 331,600 women were sterilized.
