Fake, 2011
With the series « Fake », Claude Pauquet puts down his large format camera in the alleys of Parisian fairs of tourism, aeronautics, police forces, car or erotic show.
He makes it a rule to be slow and patient, a way for him to go against the trend in those exhibition halls where the latest new items soon to be obsolete are presented.
All is done to put visitors at a furious pace. Each stand, each item is followed by another one…and visitor is allow to stroll without seeing presentation tricks.
Assault rifle, gleaming four-wheel drives, simulation of a cruise on the Mediterranean Sea are presented in the same cardboard sceneries, on the same Plexigalss displays.
An emergency exit cleverly hidden in a brick wall, a al fresco lunch casually arranged on a synthetic lawn or a machine gun which turns out to be a fake are evidences that the photographer aims to question what is really show and the way it is.
