Discreet Peaks, 2020
During summer 2020, between the two lockdowns, Raphaël Neal discovered the Peak District, a mountainous and mysterious region of central England. Enchanted parenthesis of a dark year, he decides to create a series of photos that contradict his previous one, “Dark Circus” (2020), this one made of self-portraits produced indoors during the first confinement.
An ode to the nature and the body, which he photographed naked for the first time, he was keen to repeat the underexposure process he used on the Stromboli Island a few years earlier in his series “Gone Fishing” (2017), in order to show a world that is at once seductive, disturbing and luminous, despite the context.
