Dancing at Cuba, 2002
Cuba, Havana, and its streets: the whole island lives to the rhythm of dance. Rumba, Flamenco, Salsa, paso-doble, and even classical dance are taught from the best institutions to the poorest dance schools. It is in this joyful mixture, which makes us forget for a while the misery of Cuba, that Bertrand Desprez leads us. The young dancers he follows have Latin blood, they are bubbling, but they also have the discipline and mastery of the body, essential to the best of their art.
In Havana, dance is broadcast on television: like soccer in Brazil or Super Ball in the United States. A way to elevate popular art to the rank of fine arts and give hope to an entire population.
