Caged Tiger, 2025
Indian stories over time
In southern India, I have had wonderful and unexpected encounters. Here, spirituality is part of everyday life, sensuality mingles with playfulness, dynamism with fervour. Beneath this vibrant vitality, however, there is an underlying, latent violence, ready to erupt. On the edge of the jungle, Indians live and farm alongside wild and domestic animals. There is an invisible boundary where the pure and the impure, harmony and fury coexist. At any moment, the wild can burst in, with its power and its threat. A leopard may come and devour a guard dog in the courtyard, silently, in the night. Relations between humans and animals are sometimes tense, marked by admiration and fear, domination and respect.
The heart of the Indian man resembles a caged tiger – vibrant, contained, always on the verge of escape.
