British veterans, 2024
80 years ago, as young fighters, they set foot on French soil to deliver the country from the Nazi presence.
On the eve of the D-Day commemorations, British veterans gathered at the Union Jack Club, reserved for army veterans. These former soldiers of the Army, Royal Navy, Royal Army Service Corps and Royal Air Force were saluted for their courage in front of the press, attentive schoolchildren and D-day darlings, singing the popular songs of the 1940s.
Commissioned by Le Monde, Raphaël Neal took portraits of some of them, who will be visiting the Normandy beaches for the international commemorative ceremonies marking the anniversary of June 6, 1944, in the company of 24 heads of state, including Emmanuel Macron, Joe Biden, Justin Trudeau and Charles III.
