VU’ in the eye of Libé
Exhibition from October 11 to 27, 2023
Galerie VU’
58 rue Saint Lazare – 75009 Paris
Opening
Tuesday, October 10 at 6:30 p.m.
As Libération celebrates its 50th anniversary with a series of exhibitions and the publication of a book of the same name, Agence VU’, a long-standing partner of the daily newspaper, celebrates this anniversary with a unique exhibition at Galerie VU’.
Libération’s 50th anniversary is also 50 years of history between the newspaper and photography. Every day, in its pages and on its website, photography is as important as text.
Hundreds of photographers have worked with the paper, including VU’ photographers. Indeed, the agency was first created as a subsidiary of the daily in 1986, and since then many of its talents have collaborated with its editorial staff. It was with the newspaper that VU’ staged its first exhibition, “De Libération à VU'”, at the Musée de l’Elysée in Lausanne in 1987.
This exhibition is an opportunity to look back, with no intention of being exhaustive, on important photographs and subjects, commitments, front pages and portraits, and to show that the photographic medium is a major element not only of the press, but also of our understanding of events and the world around us.
It also shows that VU’ has always been a permanent forum for reflection on the evolution of the world and of images, defending the innovative, singular and lively views of author-photographers.
Thus, Bruno Boudjelal, Claudine Doury, Richard Dumas, Guillaume Herbaut, Françoise Huguier and Cyril Zannettacci, and many other of our authors will be to be found on the walls of the Gallery.
