The series produced aboard the schooner Tara is presented for the first time in Paris, at 104, as part of the exhibition “La Grande expédition. Tara, art and science to reveal the Ocean”.
Crossing the “plastic continent” in the North Pacific Ocean between Hawaii and Oregon aboard Tara, Samuel Bollendorff had the idea for a new photographic series in 2018, which he entitled “Les Larmes de Sirènes”.
In 2019, Samuel Bollendorff joins the Tara Microplastique mission in charge of collecting 2,700 samples from nearly 45 sampling sites located between land and sea. Here, he offers a dialogue between the beauty of the seascapes and the sad reality of the samples taken on site. Every year, an estimated 11 million tonnes of plastic are discharged into the ocean, making Europe the world’s second biggest polluter.
Exhibition produced with the support of the agnès b endowment fund. Prints produced by Processus. Artistic direction: José-Manuel Gonçalvès and Fondation Tara Océan
