Le Grand Incendie : They set themselves on fire to make their voices heard.

In France, between 2011 and 2013, one person set himself or herself on fire in a public square every 15 days. In any other country, self-immolation by fire would appear to be the ultimate act of protest. In France, however, the denial of these acts, which are treated as news items, condemns them to oblivion, as they highlight the breakdown of the French social project.

The series created with Olivia Colo will be presented at the MacVal as part of the exhibition “Faits divers – Une hypothèse en 26 lettres, 5 équations et aucune réponse”.
