Since the 2000s, Pieter Ten Hoopen has focused mainly on social situations and human conditions. Working for the press or non-governmental organizations, he has made numerous reports throughout the world: Colombia, Pakistan, Russia, United States, Egypte, Kenya, Sweden, Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan… He reports testimonies on the complex situations in which certain human groups are plunged following natural disasters, ecological issues or by their geographical isolation. More than the facts that would make the news headlines, it is the gestures of everyday life that he addresses. These images, in contrast to “shocking images”, show the ability of men and women to resist adversity, their resilience after a disaster and reflect the deep empathy of the author.
