Musée du Nouveau Monde

From October 1st, 2021 to February 1st, 2022
Pierre-Elie de Pibrac was born in Paris in 1983. In 2007, he made his first photographic report in Burma.
He won numerous prizes and competitions organised by Paris Match, Photo or Orange and SFR. In 2009, Pierre-Elie assists great photographers of the Vu’ Agency such as Denis Darzacq, Claudine Doury or Rip Hopkins. That same year, he decided to devote himself entirely to photography, just like his grandfather, the photographer Paul de Cordon. From October 2016 to June 2017, Pierre-Elie de Pibrac lived for 8 months with his family in Cuba to carry out the Desmemoria project, a testimony, both anthropological and social, on the life of the “Azucareros”, a people born from sugar, living for sugar and revolutionary from the beginning. Through this testimony, Pierre-Elie opens a reflection on the identity of Cubans and the influence of sugar production on it. He won the Levallois Prize with this project.
