Monika Macdonald — In Absence
Galerie VU’
58 rue Saint-Lazare – 75009 Paris
From 15 September 2016 to 22 October 2016
Galerie VU’ presents Monika Macdonald, exhibited for the first time in France. After a major exhibition at the Fotografiska Museum in Stockholm and the publication of a first book by Kehrer Publishing, Monika Macdonald presents a series of images, In Absence, oscillating between modesty and fascination around women who have broken away from the traditional family patterns of mother and wife.
In the footsteps of Anders Petersen, whose workshop she now shares in Stockholm, this young Swedish photographer offers us the same vital promise of happiness to see. In the absence of any apparent motive, when nothing moves, his images illuminate with spectral light the cruel daze of frozen time.
Like the abundance of black and improbable objects that her master gives us of the world, Monika Macdonald’s portraits look at women struck by a strange catalepsy in the midst of excessive agitation. In the absence of reason, photography gives us the opportunity to enjoy the appalling inanity and cruelty of things.
