Canada, Nunavut, Resolute Bay, 31 January 2017 - Canadian Rangers from Resolute Bay and Arctic Bay train soldiers in Arctic survival at temperatures as low as minus 60 degrees Celsius at the Crystal City training site.

At the international photojournalism festival, Visa pour l’image 2019, Louie Palu exhibited his project Distant Early Warning.

This reportage shows the gradual militarisation of the Arctic, from the remnants of the Cold War to the increased military presence today. Changes in the region have been exacerbated by several factors, including global warming. This long-term project examines the rising geopolitical tensions and the changing conditions of indigenous communities in one of the world’s most hostile environments.
