Six years after his first exhibition “Peru, viaje al sol” (a report of the PhotoEspana Festival in June 2002), Juan Manuel Castro Prieto (Spanish photographer) returns to Galerie VU’ from 16 May 2008 to 6 September 2008 with “Extraños”, an exhibition of about fifty black and white prints. These “Extraños” are the result of experiments, explorations and purely photographic research that the photographer has been pursuing for years. In black and white and in square format, he has no other “theme” than photography itself. Whether portraits, nudes, landscapes, still lifes or the interpretation of a painting, he takes obvious pleasure in showing and demonstrating that, in photography, the essential remains the light at work. This work was the subject of a book published by Lunwerg.
