The Galerie VU’ displays for the very first time in France Juan Manuel Castro Prieto’s series Etiopia. It is the fruit of four trips of the photographer to Ethiopia, multi-ethnic country with fantastic cultural richness.
Ethiopia is a real obsession for Juan Manuel Castro Prieto, who keeps returning to it. He finds there an ancestral memory of humanity. His photographs, where colour alternates with black and white, are deprived of prejudices and stereotypes, and constitute less a logbook than an extended meditation. Both poetic and symbolic, he focuses on a land with ambiguous temporality where the vague presence of spirituality discusses with objects, signs and behaviors of the contemporary world.
