Through a series of exhibitions in several cities, Leica presents Sea Beach by Ismail Ferdous, winner of the prestigious Leica Oskar Barnack Award 2023. It’s also an opportunity for the photographer to sign his new eponymous book, published by Ni Liang – Imageless.

With its first exhibition at the Leica Meatpacking Gallery & Flagship Store in New York, Sea Beach promises to transport visitors to the heart of Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, capturing the essence of its vibrant culture and breathtaking coastline.

The series invites us to immerse ourselves in the kaleidoscope of human experiences in Cox’s Bazar. Through the eyes of Ismail Ferdous, viewers embark on a spellbinding odyssey where each image tells a unique story about the diversity and timeless appeal of the Bay of Bengal. From the boisterous laughter of children to the tranquil embrace of the waves, Sea Beach encapsulates the essence of life on the iconic shores of the photographer’s childhood.

« J’ai grandi à Dhaka, une ville composée essentiellement de béton. Cox’s Bazar était et est toujours la destination de vacances la plus palpitante du Bangladesh. La plage sert de melting pot à la culture bangladaise. (…) Jusqu’à mes vingt ans, c’était mon seul lien avec la culture de la plage et de l’océan.
